Originally bred as a hunting dog, Cocker Spaniel has been traditionally been used as hunter dogs in England as early as 14th century. The name "Cocker" is derived from a bird of the same name that was popular as a game bird that these dogs were used for flushing. They were brought to North America in the 1800's and were further bred down, that is why American Cocker Spaniels are a bit smaller than English Cocker Spaniels. Size Male Cocker Spaniels may attain a shoulder height of about 15 - 16 inches (38 - 41 cm) and may weigh about 7 - 15 kg. Females usually reach to a height of around 14 - 15 inches (37 - 39 cm). Coat Cocker Spaniels are known for their silky smooth hair of medium length. The coat of Cocker Spaniel may come in solid colours like black, cream, red, or brown or a mix of colours. Temperament Cocker Spaniels are playful, lively and gentle. They are keen, sweet and they hardly have any issues with other animals when exposed to them at an early age. They are very playful and are good with children.
